Where does China stand with autonmous driving? To find out, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Sahin Albayrak and Marc Guerreiro Augusto were on-site. We started in Shanghai with an overview of autonomous driving solutions, followed by a visit to our ZEKI partner Huawei in Shenzhen.

Topics included hardware and software solutions for autonomous drivingโ€”Huawei provides technologies for various vehicle manufacturers. Notable was the almost entirely digitized traffic and the high proportion of electric vehicles, which is far more advanced than in Germany. The next step toward AI-driven autonomous driving seems to be imminent here. At the Huawei campus in Dongguan, the focus was on cybersecurity solutions and the production of 5G base stations. Overall, our insights on-site provided a clear picture of the dynamics in China. The cooperation with Huawei holds great potential to advance the development of autonomous mobility in Germany as well. Thank you to Huawei for the open exchange and the trusting collaboration.
